Hub Lausanne consolidates text, image and video

Keystone-SDA has been enriched by a considerable pillar: The Hub Lausanne started operations in its new facilities the 18th of September. Text, image and video have been consolidated under one roof, where a team of nearly 20 editors creates multimedia content, primarily for French-speaking clients.

Multimedia
The relocation from Rue-du-Marché to Rue Saint-Martin 7, close to the Pont Bessières, went smoothly. Up to that point, SDA and Keystone had different offices. From now on, text and video journalists as well as photographers work closely intertwined in a modern newsroom.

Up-to-date reporting leaves no time for rest

In order to immediately start work, the boxes were emptied quite quickly. Up-to-date reporting leaves no time for rest. In other words, right on the day of the relocation a robbery had to be dealt with. The video journalists covered a monumental fresco near Lake Geneva, whereas the sports colleagues prepared the coverage of the first round of Champions League group games.

The regional desk did not waste any time either. It kept in touch with the regional Keystone-SDA offices in Western Switzerland, analysed Communiqués, revised texts and provided clients with multimedia content, afterwards. Along with that, the regional desk is always in close contact with the Hubs in Berne and Zurich. There is plenty of work to be done. The video desk delivers moving images from the different regions of Western Switzerland as well as foreign news. The photographers for their part are also busy, mainly hand in hand with their text colleagues.

Correspondents of the other language region work in Lausanne and in the Hubs Berne and Zurich, respectively. The German speaking colleagues in Lausanne cover events taking place in the French-speaking part of Switzerland, guaranteeing an exchange of information between the different language regions. The correspondents from Western Switzerland based in Zurich have the same mission.

Specialized journalists deeply integrated

The French-speaking science editor as well as the Federal correspondent have their workplace in the Lausanne-Hub. The science editor thus takes advantage of its proximity to the “Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL)”, crucial for his work. The Federal editor covers the most important court’s decisions, out of a vast number of judgments made year after year.

In the middle of the new newsroom a meeting room is established, mainly used for planning meetings. Hence, the sports editors were able to hold their monthly conference in this room, right on the first day. This is also where client meetings will take place. The Key Account Manager, responsible for the Western Swiss clients, will also be in the office on a regular basis.

By implementing the Hub concept, Keystone-SDA wants to considerably strengthen its multimedia strategy announced in the scope of its merger. In addition, Keystone-SDA is closer to its clients, while striving to take advantage of synergies within the production of text, image and videos.
